The Fanning Sisters

After seeing the fantastic W cover for December 2011 featuring Dakota and Elle Fanning dressed in Valentino Haute Couture I decided I had to have a post entirely dedicated to them.

Both of them started their acting carreers at a really young age, delightining us with their performances on the big screens.
Elle, with only 13 years old, as already been on more movies than her own age, beggining playing the same parts of her big sister, Dakota, on a younger version, like on the movie "I am Sam" where she plays Dakota's character, Lucy, when she was 2. As she grew older she began to create a name of her own appearing on movies like "Babel", "The Door on the Ground" and "Benjamin Button"... and getting major roles on movies such as "Phoebe in Wonderland" where she is Phoebe, who doesn't follow the rules and starts living in her own fantasy world, "Somewhere" from Sofia Coppola on the role of Cleo, the 11 year old daughter of Stephen Dorff's character, in a unique take on the life, fame and stardoom of Hollywood, and, right after, in "Super 8" she plays Alice on a surprising and mystirious sci-fi movie about a discovery made by a group of kids.
Following on the steps of her older sister, she also shines on the fashion world having more editorials this year than the number of years she has, and being the face of Marc Jacobs Fall 2011 campaign and Rodart's short movie.

Dakota Fanning, now 17, has been giving us proof of her talent for years. Since her unforgettable role as Lucy on "I am Sam", where she shared the screen with Sean Penn, I doubt that anyone has forgotten her name. She managed to move everyone as the daughter of Sam, a mentally retarded man, who fights for his daughter's custody against all odds. Since then many were the roles she played with perfection, like in "Uptown Girls" with Brittany Murphy, where she has the role of Ray, a precocious little girl who acts like an adult and who suffers in silence with her cold and distant relationship with her mother, "Hide and Seek" with Robert De Niro, "War of the Worlds", "The Secret Life of Bees", "Push", the Twilight saga where she is Jane, a cold and cruel vampire, and, finnally, "The Runaways, on the role of Cherie Currie, a 70's teen band's singer and with Kristen Stewart playing Joan Jett.

Dakota and Elle went from being simple kids to film stars and fashion icons, loved by the public, photographers, editors and designers.

This is the first guest post of my blog. The fashion editor of Boticca, an online marketplace of designer jewelry and accessories from all over the world, so far they have 230 designers from almost 40 countries, is the author of today's post, where she is going to explain a little the idea of the site and will present some pieces that can be bought there and its creators.
Hope you like it.

Boticca guest post by Poppy Skinner

The festive period brings with it many things and one of the main ones is the plethora of parties that seem to get suddenly crammed into this two-month celebratory marathon. With so many parties to attend, how do you make sure you stand out for all the right reasons? How do you make sure that you don’t walk into a party to realize that, shock horror, there are three other girls wearing the same accessories as you? You want to know? Boticca is how.

Boticca is a new and exciting marketplace full to the brim of the world’s finest emerging jewelry and accessory talent. The brainchild of Kiyan Foroughi and Avid Larizadeh, the creative spark behind Boticca was lit in Morocco. Kiyan happened to meet a designer called Miriam in the souks and was quickly enchanted by her work. He quickly discovered that there was far more than just beauty to her work, it went further than that with her designs having both a meaning and a story. Frustrated with the fact that only a few lucky people would get to experience her pieces, Kiyan and Avid sought to change that and that is how Boticca came to be

So, during the festive period our thoughts inevitably turn to looking good and standing out. Feeling fashionably festive I have decided to channel a chic black and gold vibe this year, both for practicality and sheer fashion-savvy reasons.

First on my list is Emma Guest’s Gold and ebony bird necklace. Quirky and fun, this plastic and sterling silver chain is the perfect day to evening number.

Keeping with the necklace theme, with a number of evening soirees’s to attend this year; I am planning on vamping it up with Elvira Sazesh’s Golden Ring Necklace. The perfect combination of high-octane glam meets unique chic.

Next on my list is Caipora Jewellery’s art necklace. Never one to rest on my fashion laurels, this is the perfect family gathering beauty.

When it comes to bracelets, I like them big and bold and Zelia Horsley’s BLOCK&ROLL BRACELET is perfect for those work festive drinks where you don’t want to look too overdone. With my husband’s company hosting festive parties this year too, I have to find the perfect balance between chic fashionista meets corporate guru. Hating the feeling of being overdressed, especially when it’s around a new crowd, something like Origami Jewellery’s Big Magic Ball necklace should see me through in style.

Benetton strikes again

The withdrawn photo of the campaign.

Many of you must have already seen the provocative images of Benetton's newest campaign "Unhate", maintaining the same register that's a part of its brand image, this new campaign shows manipulated pictures of several political and religious world leaders kissing in the mouth, in a gesture of acceptance and reconciliation.
Benetton campaigns have had for many years, actually since I can remember, an awareness character to them, picking up relevant themes of our time.
From 1982 to 2000 the photographer responsible for the label's publicity was Oliviero Toscani that was known for breaking the barrier with traditional publicity with shocking campaigns for this brand and others, In 1989 a black woman was breast feeding a white baby, in 1991 a priest and a nun kiss, in 1992 it showed us a man dying of Aids, so it comes as no surprise to see another campaign that stirs up so much controversy.
Of course these images can hurt many people's susceptibilities, one of the photos was already took out of the campaign, the one with the Pope and an Egypcian Iman, Ahmed Mohamed, kissing, which was considered by the Vatican a lack of respect for the Pope and for that unnaceptable.
A powerful marketing strategy? No doubt about it! At least everyone's talking about Benetton, for better or for worse.
So what do you think about the campaign?
