Pirelli Calendar photographed by photojournalist Steve McCurry

O famoso calendário Pirelli, conhecido pelas suas fascinantes fotografias de nus artísticos, revelou o fotógrafo para a edição de 2013, uma grande surpresa, sem dúvida.

Normalmente fotografado pelos melhores fotógrafos de moda como Herb Ritts, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier e, o mais recente, Mario Sorrenti, o calendário do próximo ano muda um pouco de direção sob a objetiva do fotojornalista Steve McCurry.

Conhecido por captar a famosa imagem da National Geographic em 1985 da rapariga afegã de olhos verdes que impressionou o mundo inteiro, McCurry revela que pretende retratar uma mulher que é sexy sem estar nua, definitivamente uma visão diferente das anteriores.

Resta esperar para ver o resultado no final deste ano e quem terão sido as musas escolhidas pelo fotógrafo.

The famous Pirelli Calendar, known for its fascinating photos of artistic nudes, revealed the photographer for the 2013 edition, a big surprise, there's no doubt in that.

Usually photographed by the best fashion photographers like Herb Ritts, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier and, the most recent, Mario Sorrenti, next year's calendar is headed in a new direction under the lens of photojournalist Steve McCurry.

Known for capturing the iconic National Geographic image in 1985, of the green eyed Afghan girl that impressed the whole world, McCurry says he wants to "portray women who are sexy without being naked", definitely a different vision from the ones before.

Now we just have to wait to see the result in the end of this year and who the photographer chose as his muses.

Actors and Fashion

Depois de um post sobre os Globos de Ouro resolvi ficar pelo mesmo tema e falar um pouco sobre a relação que existe desde sempre entre o Cinema e a Moda.
Estes dois desde sempre foram intimamente ligados e, hoje em dia, essa união entre as duas áreas perdura.
Desde os anos 20 que a indústria da Moda vai buscar alguns dos seus "ícones" ao cinema, numa época em que a comunicação visual era muito importante as estrelas do cinema tornaram-se rapidamente parte da monarquia da moda.
As mulheres queriam tornar-se como as suas musas do grande ecrã, o cabelo, as roupas até a maqilhagem, e mesmo os homens seguiam com atenção o exemplo das estrelas masculina como Clark Gable e Cary Grant. Homens por toda a parte apareciam com o bigode popularizado por Clark Gable.
Ícones no cinema e também na moda, Marlene Dietrich e Katherine Hepburn foram importantes para tornarem popular e aceitável o uso de calças por mulheres. E, também, o corte de cabelo de Louise Brooks nos anos 20 foi imitado por mulheres por todo o mundo e ainda hoje é bastante usado.
Mais tarde Rita Hayworth, Aubrey Hepburn, Marylin Monroe e Brigitte Bardot fizeram também parte do rol de actrizes que encantaram gerações e gerações dentro e fora do ecrã.
Hoje em dia, esta associação entre as duas indústrias continua inabalável, com actrizes capas de revistas de moda e a desfilarem nas mais conhecidas passereles.
A Vogue US é conhecida pelas suas capas de celebridades, tendo, por exemplo, Meryl Streep como capa da edição de Janeiro deste ano. Muitos actores e actrizes brilham em editoriais de moda nas mais variadas revistas junto com os melhores modelos da actualidade.
É neste sentido que vos queria mostrar as novas "colaborações" entre as duas áreas.
Depois do muito falado desfile Primavera 2011 de Tom Ford com Julianne Moore e Laura Hutton na passerele, o último desfile da Prada de Homem, colecção Outono Inverno 2012 contou com as participações dos conhecidos actores Adrien Broby, Tim Roth, Gary Oldman e Willem Dafoe e os mais novos Emile Hirsch e Jamie Bell a encarnarem na perfeição o seu papel de modelos.
E, na W de Fevereiro 19 actores e actrizes são celebrados pelo grande talento demonstrado nos seus últimos papéis, representando todos personagens numa luta interior com si mesmos, numa complexa rede de medos e desejos, num artigo/ editorial fotografado por Mario Sorrenti intitulado Best Performances.

Leaving a post about The Golden Globe Awards behind, I decided to go on with the same theme on this one, and talk about the long "relationship" between the Film industry and Fashion.
Both industries were since always intimately connected and, nowadays, that union still lasts.
Since the 20's the Fashion industry finds some of their great icons in the Film Industry, in a time when visual communication was very important film stars rapidly became part of the fashion royalty.
Women everywhere wanted to be like their big screen muses, the hair, the clothes and also the make-up, and even men followed attentively the examples given by the masculine film stars such as Cary Grant and Clark Gable. Men all over the world were wearing a moustache made popular by Clark Gable.
Film Icons as well as Fashion icons, Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn were very important to make popular and more acceptable for women to wear trousers. And also, Louise Brooks hairstyle was copied by women throughout the world, and is used even today.
Later, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Marylin Monroe and Brigitte Bardot were also part of the group of actresses that enchanted generations and generations in and out of the screens.
Nowadays this "association" between the two industries remains unflinching, with actresses on the cover of fashion magazines and walking on notorious runway shows.
Vogue US is known for their celebrity covers, for example, with Meryl Streep as their January issue cover. Many actors and actresses shine on fashion editorials for various magazines alongside with the most brilliant models of our time.
Is with this in mind that I wanted to show you some of the most recent collaborations between Fashion and Film.
After Tom Ford's unforgettable runway show for Spring 2011 with Julianne Moore and Laura Hutton walking the runway, the latest Prada menswear runway show for Fall 2012, counted with the renowned names of Tim Roth, Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman and Willem Dafoe and the younger ones Emile Hirsch and Jamiel Bell to embody with perfection the role of models.
And, on the February issue of W magazine, 19 actors and actresses are celebrated for their talents showed on their last performances, all representing characters struggling inside, in a complex web of fears and desires, on an article/editorial photographed by Mario Sorrenti called Best Performances.

2012 Pirelli Calendar

Sei que muitos já devem ter visto o calendário Pirelli para o próximo ano mas eu não podia deixar de comentar.
Desde 1964 que este calendário existe e com o tempo tornou-se mítico em todo o mundo por não se ficarem pelo óbvio e irem um pouco mais além. Apenas alguns eleitos o recebem mas as fotos estão disponíveis para nós, meros mortais, online.
Muitos dos melhores fotógrafos de todos os tempos já mostraram o seu talento ao fotografar este calendário, Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier e, nos dois ultimos anos, Terry Richardson e Karl Lagerfeld. Este ano o escolhido foi Mario Sorrenti, um dos melhores fotógrafos do momento.
Com total liberdade criativa Mario Sorrenti segue com o seu estilo em que valoriza a figura da mulher, dando-lhe poder, nestas 25 fotografias com 12 belas modelos e actrizes em Córsega, desde a sua ex- namorada Kate Moss a Lara Stone e Saskia de Brauw.
Inicialmente pensava fazer algo sexy mas daí passou para algo sensual, e há uma grande diferença entre os dois conceitos. A ideia era fazer algo sensual mas não exagerado focando a beleza natural das mulheres, conjugando-a com a natureza.
Palavras chave como Sensualidade, Intimidade, Inocência e Puro são o que define esta série de fotografias.
Mario trabalhou sozinho com as modelos em algumas das fotos para poder garantir uma maior intimidade, como o próprio disse, criar uma conversa sem palavras, e isso vê-se nas suas fotografias, na atitude e olhar das modelos e mesmo no próprio jogo de luzes e sombras que utiliza.
Sem dúvida fotografias bastante impactantes, numa sensualidade pura.
O vídeo do making of vale mesmo a pena ver se têm 20 minutos disponíveis. Não sei o que é melhor as fotos ou o video, em que podem ver o processo do trabalho das modelos com Mario Sorrenti e os seus comentários.

I know that many of you must have already seen the Pirelli calendar for next year but I couldn't help to bring it up here.
This calendar exists since 1964 and with time it has become mythical all over the world for not going for the obvious and always going for something a little more beneath the surface. Only a few chosen ones get it in hand but the photos are available for us, mere mortals, online.
Many of the best photographers of all times have already shown their talent photographing this calendar, Herb Ritts, Richard Avedon, Peter Lindbergh, Patrick Demarchelier and, in the last couple of years, Terry Richardson and Karl Lagerfeld. This is the chosen one was Italian born Mario Sorrenti, one of the best photographers of the moment.
With absolute liberty to do whatever he wanted in the calendar, Sorrenti sticks with his style where he values the woman's figure, empowering her, on these 25 photos of 12 beautiful models and actresses in Corsica, from his ex girlfriend Kate Moss to Lara Stone and Saskia de Brauw.
Inicially he thought of doing something really sexy but from there he decided to do something sensual instead, and there's a big difference between the two concepts. The idea was to do something sensual but not exaggerated or over the top focusing on the women's natural beauty, bringing it together with nature.
Key words like Sensuality, Intimacy, Innocence and Pure are what define this series of photos.
Mario even worked alone with the models in some of the photos to assure a more intimate moment, as he said, build a conversation without words, and that shows on his photos, on the models' attitude and look and even on the way he plays with the lights and shadows.
Without a doubt very compelling photos, in a raw and pure sensuality.
The making of video is definitely worth seeing if you have 20 minutes to spare. I don't know what is best the photos or the video, where you can see the models working with Sorrenti and hear their comments.
