The comeback of the Grunge

After all the runway shows from the major fashion weeks for the next season we were able to see that there was something recurring in many of them, the grunge style.
Born in the 90's, from the influence of icons like Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, this relaxed and rebel aesthetic is back. This way, it seemed more than appropriate  to show you an editorial that I worked on last year with the same theme, grunge and also inspired on the tv show Skins.
I hope you like it and once again I apologize for not being here as much.
Have a great week.

Carine Roitfeld and her CR Fashion Book

new article on . novo artigo na
http://nstylemag.com

Hoje venho partilhar convosco o meu novo artigo para a Nstyle Magazine.
Today I'm going to share with you my new article for Nstyle Magazine.

Carine Roitfeld never seizes to amaze. After her depart from Vogue Paris, there were numerous collaborations with brands, designers and photographers, including the fabulous book and exhibition alongside Karl Lagerfeld, for Chanel "The Little Black Jacket", until a few months ago she announced the launch of her new magazine, CR Fashion Book.
This semi-annual magazine will be launched on September 13th, this year, a date anxiously awaited by everyone who's interested in fashion.
Roitfeld promises a magazine that's always edgy and different from other publications and, that's exactly what we can see on the first photo from the much anticipated magazine. Shot by Sebastian Faena, model Juliet Ingleby appears on a graveyard wearing only a flowy lavender veil and  red accessories, followed closely by three minions styled as the black widows, a provocative image that could only come from the mind of the ex Vogue Paris editor-in-chief.
Now we only have to wait for September to see what else will this fashion genius that is Carine Roitfeld will bring new.

Artigo original - nstylemag.com

In the midst of all the flat shoes and super high platforms, a new type of shoe has come. The flatforms, as they are called, combine the comfort of flats with the height we all want, while giving an edginess to any look we pair them with.
In sandals, oxfords and creepers, these shoes are appearing everywhere, making it impossible to not notice this new trend that began in the Spring 2011 season with Prada, and that has been evolving since then, having a standout role in the Chanel Resort 2013 show.
Brands like Eureka shoes, Office and Free People responded immediately to this trend and present to us many models of this shoe for any situation.

Back to the 90's . Goth Lips

artigo original . original article by me

It seems like the 90's are back, at least when it comes to make-up. The wine coloured lips, so popular in that decade are invading the runway, red carpets and even the streets all over the world.
The Goth hues are making way on the midst of bright pink, coral and even nude lips, all this Spring trends.
We can put the "blame" of this comeback on the well known make-up artist Pat McGrath, who painted the models' lips on these tones for the Spring 2012 Balenciaga runway show. Later, on the Fall shows this colour was present once again and, recently, it has been the colour chosen by many stars for the red carpet.
Contrary to the 90's, now goth lips are combined with a clean natural skin with just a little of mascara, much like the femme fatale of a film noir.

Tavi . Fashion Muse

The whole world must have already heard about Tavi Gevinson, one of the most influential people in the fashion world and, also, one of the youngest ever blogger and trendsetter.
A girl with only 15 years old that seems to have come from a different era, with an aesthetic clearly influenced by passed decades like the 60's, and who pushes the boundaries of fashion, shaping them to her own tastes.
Tavi learned to question herself about the world, to create her own universe based on her ideas, tastes and experiences, much like many children and teenagers do, but she went further by sharing that universe with whoever wanted to see, and the result was thousands of followers.
When she was 11 she started a blog that turned out to be a fashion manual for many. With just 13 she was invited to the New York Fashion Week and, nowadays, four years later teens and grown ups from all over the world follow her blog the stylerookie.com and her online magazine rookiemag.com attentively. And, the list of fashion people wanting to work with her is immense.
Her last collaboration, with Wren, resulted on an ethereal and dreamy video, wih a 60's inspiration and something that takes us to the movie "The Virgin Suicides", both loved by the young blogger. In the video, Tavi shows up singing the music "Beware of Young Girls" by Dory Previn while she appears with different pieces of the brand from the fall 2012 collection. A perfect combination.
What more is there to come from this young fashion muse?

Streetstyle creating trends

Lau

Another one of my articles was published in the online magazine, Nstyle Magazine, this time about the influence of Streetstyle on fashion and trends. To see the article go to Nstyle Mag.
Hope you like it.

Here is the English translation of the article.

"The fashion world is in constant change and evolution, sometimes it's hard to understand how and why it appears, what inspires the designers to create their collections and what inspires people to dress. Which ones dictate the trends, the designers or the people in the street?
Before, collections (the so-called fashion) and what was seen on the streets were two completely different things and independent from one another, but the two eventually came together and blended, and nowadays we can't figure out when one starts and the other ends.
Since the 70's, when Vivienne Westwood was inspired by the punk culture in London, by the people, the urban tribes she saw on the street, and transported that movement to fashion, many designers started to look in the streets for inspiration and new trends.
While in the past the examples to follow were great actresses and models, now there are also ordinary people that we can see on the streets, that bring their own unique flavour to what they wear, interpreting fashion their own way. Each passing day we are more captivated by the way "people like us", with creativity and imagination, put together their outfits and their style.

Photographers and streetstyle sites have helped a lot with this phenomenon, transforming people from the street in real fashion icons. Many have a great eye for trends, to what is new and cool like Scott Schuman, the photographer and blogger from the well known site The Sartorialist, Tommy Ton from Jak&Jil or Yvan Rodic from Face Hunter. Others simply share their own day to day outfits whether on their personal blogs, like Leandra from the Man Repeller, Chiara from The Blonde Salad or Kelly Framel from The Glamourai, owners of blogs with thousands of visits each day, or in sites like Lookbook.nu, an online community where anyone can share their favourite looks.

This blog explosion makes people have access to information a lot faster. They don't have to wait for the fashion weeks season to have access to new trends because they can see them almost instantly, any day any time, on the streetstyle photos, on people just like us walking in the street on their way to work or coming home, on people who have a unique style and for that capture everyone's attention, creating their own trends and inspiring people all over the world to step out of their comfort zone and risk on something different.

It's not models wearing carefully chosen looks from brands with lots of zeros on the price tag or posing in a magazine, it's people dressed for their day to day activities that interpret what they have and what is given by the fashion industry, mixing designer pieces with low cost ones, creating a bridge between high fashion and urban.
Labels look at these new trend-setters and have into account their choices when creating a new collection. On fashion week the attentions are split. Runway shows are not the only thing grabbing the photographers eye or creating trends, but also who goes to the shows and how they're dressed.
Nowadays, we live in a world where inspiration can come from everywhere, from the people who pass us in the street, to the magazines and runway shows, and even the numerous blogs. We are in a time when we are not only fashion spectators, we are part of it. Today, fashion is not only dictated by the designers from well known brands but also by the consumer that inspires and gets inspired by it."

The New Generation

Today I decided to show you another one of my projects from last year when I was studying my Styling master in Barcelona.
This shooting was the only one we did in class, and the only one we didn't have to take care of getting models, photographer, make up artist... as it happened in all the others, with was great despite everything, because it was a way of learning how to move around that "world" and, most of all, to gain some contacts of our own.
Having a group of models to work with, the concept was simple, a group of youngsters, rich, with no worries, each one with their own individual style but that in the end they tend to complement one another, and in a party mood.
The class was divided into groups and each group had little time to prepare everything, dress the 6 models and shoot, which makes everything more dynamic, I  have to say I love the rush and the atmosphere of the backstage, whether it is on runway shows or shootings.
Sharing with you this projects after all these months makes me miss it all a lot, the work, the shootings, the people I met and, of course, the city itself.
Hope you like it.

It's been a long time since I've shared here with you some of my work and I figured today would be perfect for it.
Some of you might know, and some don't, that last year I was living in Barcelona for a year, studying a master in Fashion. I've studied from coolhunting, image consulting, to styling in its many variants, from a movie stylist, TV stylist, preparing the wardrobe for a tv show or series... to a fashion stylist.
I had the opportunity to follow up the work process, since the creation of an idea or concept to its completion, in photo shoots.
It's with that in mind that I decided to share with you my final course work, that was made in group.
The idea was to create a magazine, from articles, to the bazaars, to the magazine's layout and edition and, finally, to the editorial that would reflect visually the concept of the whole project.
Our idea was inspired on the movie "Blindness" and the book it was based "Ensaio sobre a Cegueira" from the Portuguese writer José Saramago. We wanted something with a deep message and not only just another fashion magazine, therefore we embraced the blindness theme, a white blindness, uniting it to fashion.
It's a white blindness that, like in the book, transports us to a whole different world, on the beginning it gives us, rather than a sensation of obscurity, a sense of empty, of void, in a total white space, instead of a lack of light it's an explosion of it, showing us a crescent vulnerability and, ultimately, a feeling of hope and the improvement and catharsis of the individuals, from the movie and book and also the character from the editorial.
It was one of the projects that gave me most pleasure to do, as much for the team, from the group itselt to the photographer and model..., as for the concept and final outcome.
Here, I'm just going to show you the editorial, hope you like it.
