The Great Gatsby by Miuccia Prada

The Great Gatsby é, sem dúvida, um dos filmes mais esperados do ano.

Esta adaptação de Baz Luhrmann do famoso romance de F. Scott Fitzgerald cada vez dá mais que falar e deixa todos ansiosos pela sua estreia em Maio deste ano.

Uma das razões para tão grande expectativa é o guarda-roupa de luxo criado para esta longa-metragem. Para quem não sabe, Miuccia Prada uniu-se a Catherine Martin, a responsável de guarda-roupa do filme, para criar 40 looks inspirados em criações passadas da Prada e Miu Miu.

Miuccia Prada decidiu aguçar-nos um bocadinho mais o apetite e revelou um pequeno preview dos looks que estão para vir. Podemos ver que não vão faltar vestidos luxuosos ao verdadeiro estilo dos anos 20, com cristais, lantejoulas e franjas em tons de esmeralda, jade, topázio e dourado e materiais como veludo e pêlo.

The Great Gatsby is, without question, one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

This Baz Luhrmann film adaptation of the famous romance by F.Scott Fitzgerald is giving everyone much to talk about and is leaving all of us anxious for its premiere this May.

One of the reasons why there’s so much expectation is the high fashion wardrobe created for this feature. For those of you who don’t yet know, Miuccia Prada joined forces with Catherine Martin, the film’s costume designer, to create 40 costumes inspired on past creations by Prada and Miu Miu.

Miuccia Prada has decided to prick up our curiosity a little more and unveiled a small preview of the looks that are coming. One thing is for sure, there will be plenty of luxurious dresses true to the roaring 20’s style, with crystals, beadings and fringes in emerald, jade, topaz and gold tones and luxury materials like fur and velvet.

A moda está presente em Cannes e não só nos vestidos e fatos deslumbrantes que as celebridades vestem pelo Sul de França, mas também em filme.
A Prada surpreendeu ao apresentar uma curta metragem de apenas 3 minutos e meio realizada pelo aclamado realizador Roman Polanski e protagonizado por Helena Bonham Carter e Ben Kingsley.
A curta está intitulada como "A Therapy" e é divertida e original e leva-nos de uma forma bastante interessante à mensagem final.

Fashion is present at Cannes and not only on the stunning dresses and suits from the stars at the South of France, but also on film.
Prada surprised  everyone by presenting a short film of only 3minutes and a half directed by the controversial and acclaimed director Roman Polanski and starring Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley.
The short film is called "A Therapy" and it's fun and quirky and leads us in a very entertaining way to the final message.

Met Ball 2012 Favourites

Ontem à noite, enquanto por aqui, no Porto, se ia à Queima da Fitas, em Nova Iorque juntavam-se as maiores personalidades da moda e não só num dos mais aguardados eventos do ano, o Met Ball.
Este evento organizado pela Vogue e a sua "Queen Bee", Anna Wintour, teve como tema este ano Elsa Schiaparelli e Miuccia Prada, em honra a estes dois grandes nomes da moda italiana.
A marca Schiaparelli, que com a sua fundadora Elsa Schiaparelli revolucionou o mundo da moda, unindo arte e moda, vai voltar à vida ainda no final deste ano, depois de ter estado fechado desde 1954.
Mas voltando ao Met Ball, muitos foram os vestidos deslumbrantes (alguns nem tanto) que passaram pela red carpet, e eu deixo-vos aqui os meus favoritos.

Last night, while in here, in Porto, people were going to Queima das Fitas (a week of university parties), in New York the biggest fashion personalities and more got together to attend one of the greatest events of the year, the Met Ball.
This event, hosted by Vogue and its "Queen Bee", Anna Wintour, had as a theme this year Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, honoring these two great names of the italian fashion.
The Schiaparelli house, that with its founder Elsa Schiaparelli redefined the fashion world, uniting art and fashion, is coming back to life later this year, after being closed since 1954.
But back to the Met Ball, many were the stunning (and some not that stunning) dresses that passed through the red, and I'm going to leave you here some of my favourites.

Top 10 Fall Trends

As grandes semanas de moda chegaram ao fim, depois de um grande mês de desfiles e novas colecções as tendências para a próxima estação já começam a dar que falar.
A obsessão por estampados da temporada passada continua na temporada de Outono, desta vez em fatos completos estampados capazes de nos pôr com um sorriso na cara, o luxo e a opulência da época de Marie Antoinette estão de volta em peças modernas de tecido brocado e bordados detalhados, e continuando numa tendência super feminina, os elegantes vestidos ajustados ao corpo pelo joelho, "sheath dresses", invadiram os desfiles em todas as cidades dando continuidade ao efeito Kate Middleton,  e num estilo completamente diferente, a inspiração militar também esteve presente em várias colecções especialmente em peças de outerwear, trazendo um toque masculino à temporada.
Também casacos de pêlo continuam a ser tendência mas desta vez em tons mais coloridos e também em pormenores, porque usar só em casacos, quando se pode utilizar nos colarinhos, como peplum ou em detalhes de sweaters.
Outra grande tendência é a pele, couro, mas que agora aparece envernizado, brilhante, numa nova abordagem ao material. E continuando com o brilho, o glitter e lurex voltam esta temporada, mas não só em dourados mas numa gama de tons mais abrangente e saturada.
No que diz respeito a outerwear, os casacos aparecem em proporções oversized, fazendo parecer as modelos pequenas meninas a brincar com as roupas das mães.
O branco neve é uma óptima alternativa ao preto que tanto gostamos de usar no Inverno, e foi uma aposta popular nos desfiles europeus.
Para terminar em grande, os chapéus estiveram por toda a parte nos desfiles da temporada de Outono Inverno, seja num estilo mais excêntrico ou mais simples, era impossível não reparar neles.

The major fashion weeks have come to an end, after a full month of runway shows and new collections next season's trends are already here for us.
The print obsession of last season continued to Fall season, this time in printed suits that lift our moods and put a smile in our faces, the luxury and opulence of Marie Antoinette's era are back in modern pieces made of brocades and detailed embroidery, and sticking to the ultra feminine trend, the elegant curve hugging, knee length sheath dresses invaded the runways in every city continuing the Kate Middleton effect, and in a much different style, the military inspiration was also present in many collections especially in outerwear pieces, bringing a masculine touch to the season.
Fur coats also continue to be a big trend but this time in more colourful tones and in details, why only use it on coats, when you can use it in collars, in a peplum or in details of a sweater.
Another huge trend is leather, but now it appears lacquered, shiny and glossy, on a new approach of the material. And to continue with the shine, glitter and lurex are back this season in a big way, not only in gold but in a more extensive palette of saturated tones.
Talking about outerwear, the coats appear now in oversized proportions, making models look like little girls playing dress up in their mothers' clothes.
The winter white is a great alternative to the black we all love to wear in the cold weather, and was a popular choice in European runway shows.
To top it all, hats were all over the place on the shows this Fall season, whether in a more eccentric style or in a simpler way, it was impossible not to notice them.

Actors and Fashion

Depois de um post sobre os Globos de Ouro resolvi ficar pelo mesmo tema e falar um pouco sobre a relação que existe desde sempre entre o Cinema e a Moda.
Estes dois desde sempre foram intimamente ligados e, hoje em dia, essa união entre as duas áreas perdura.
Desde os anos 20 que a indústria da Moda vai buscar alguns dos seus "ícones" ao cinema, numa época em que a comunicação visual era muito importante as estrelas do cinema tornaram-se rapidamente parte da monarquia da moda.
As mulheres queriam tornar-se como as suas musas do grande ecrã, o cabelo, as roupas até a maqilhagem, e mesmo os homens seguiam com atenção o exemplo das estrelas masculina como Clark Gable e Cary Grant. Homens por toda a parte apareciam com o bigode popularizado por Clark Gable.
Ícones no cinema e também na moda, Marlene Dietrich e Katherine Hepburn foram importantes para tornarem popular e aceitável o uso de calças por mulheres. E, também, o corte de cabelo de Louise Brooks nos anos 20 foi imitado por mulheres por todo o mundo e ainda hoje é bastante usado.
Mais tarde Rita Hayworth, Aubrey Hepburn, Marylin Monroe e Brigitte Bardot fizeram também parte do rol de actrizes que encantaram gerações e gerações dentro e fora do ecrã.
Hoje em dia, esta associação entre as duas indústrias continua inabalável, com actrizes capas de revistas de moda e a desfilarem nas mais conhecidas passereles.
A Vogue US é conhecida pelas suas capas de celebridades, tendo, por exemplo, Meryl Streep como capa da edição de Janeiro deste ano. Muitos actores e actrizes brilham em editoriais de moda nas mais variadas revistas junto com os melhores modelos da actualidade.
É neste sentido que vos queria mostrar as novas "colaborações" entre as duas áreas.
Depois do muito falado desfile Primavera 2011 de Tom Ford com Julianne Moore e Laura Hutton na passerele, o último desfile da Prada de Homem, colecção Outono Inverno 2012 contou com as participações dos conhecidos actores Adrien Broby, Tim Roth, Gary Oldman e Willem Dafoe e os mais novos Emile Hirsch e Jamie Bell a encarnarem na perfeição o seu papel de modelos.
E, na W de Fevereiro 19 actores e actrizes são celebrados pelo grande talento demonstrado nos seus últimos papéis, representando todos personagens numa luta interior com si mesmos, numa complexa rede de medos e desejos,  num artigo/ editorial fotografado por Mario Sorrenti intitulado Best Performances.


Leaving a post about The Golden Globe Awards behind, I decided to go on with the same theme on this one, and talk about the long "relationship" between the Film industry and Fashion.
Both industries were since always intimately connected and, nowadays, that union still lasts.
Since the 20's the Fashion industry finds some of their great icons in the Film Industry, in a time when visual communication was very important film stars rapidly became part of the fashion royalty.
Women everywhere wanted to be like their big screen muses, the hair, the clothes and also the make-up, and even men followed attentively the examples given by the masculine film stars such as Cary Grant and Clark Gable. Men all over the world were wearing a moustache made popular by Clark Gable.
Film Icons as well as Fashion icons, Marlene Dietrich and Katherine Hepburn were very important to make popular and more acceptable for women to wear trousers. And also, Louise Brooks hairstyle was copied by women throughout the world, and is used even today.
Later, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Marylin Monroe and Brigitte Bardot were also part of the group of actresses that enchanted generations and generations in and out of the screens.
Nowadays this "association" between the two industries remains unflinching, with actresses on the cover of fashion magazines and walking on notorious runway shows.
Vogue US is known for their celebrity covers, for example, with Meryl Streep as their January issue cover. Many actors and actresses shine on fashion editorials for various magazines alongside with the most brilliant models of our time.
Is with this in mind that I wanted to show you some of the most recent collaborations between Fashion and Film.
After Tom Ford's unforgettable runway show for Spring 2011 with Julianne Moore and Laura Hutton walking the runway, the latest Prada menswear runway show for Fall 2012, counted with the renowned names of Tim Roth, Adrien Brody, Gary Oldman and Willem Dafoe and the younger ones Emile Hirsch and Jamiel Bell to embody with perfection the role of models.
And, on the February issue of W magazine, 19 actors and actresses are celebrated for their talents showed on their last performances, all representing characters struggling inside, in a complex web of fears and desires, on an article/editorial photographed by Mario Sorrenti called Best Performances.

Crop Tops, Now and Then

Falando das tendências para a Primavera deste ano, apenas a poucos meses de distância,  mas que já nos deixam com "àgua na boca" desde Setembro, sendo uma delas, o temido por algumas e desejado por outras, crop top. 
Pois é, se há altura para pôr essas barriguinhas no ponto é esta, pelo menos para quem faz alguma intenção de seguir esta tendência.
Mas será esta peça, que invadiu as passereles em Setembro, algo de novo? Claro que não, é apenas mais uma prova de como as "modas" são cíclicas, vêm e vão e voltam. E esta veio e foi não à muito tempo. Quem não se lembra de à uns 10 anos atrás ver por todo o lado raparigas de barriga à mostra com os típicos piercings no umbigo e calças ou saias de cintura super descida, ou até ser uma dessas raparigas?
Se antes este top era usado com partes de baixo de cintura super descida, ao típico estilo Britney Spears, agora é, principalmente, conjugado com calças, saias, calções de cinta subida, mostrando apenas um pouco de pele, num look mais elegante.
Desde Acne em Londres, Prada em Milão a Nina Ricci em Paris, esta peça de roupa surgiu nos mais variados estilos e feitios, resta descobrir o nosso preferido.

Speaking of this year's Spring trends, just a couple of months away, but that have been "watering our mouths" since September, being one of them, the feared by some and most desired by others, crop top.
That's right, if there's a time to work those abs this is it, at least for the ones who have any intention of following this trend.
But is this piece of clothing, that invaded the runways in September, something new? Of course not, it's just another proof of how fashion is cyclic, it comes and goes and then returns. And this one in particular came and went not a long time ago. Who doesn't remember, like 10 years ago, seeing young girls everywhere with her abs all showing, with their characteristic belly button rings and super low waisted trousers, or even being one of those girls?
If before this top was used with super low waisted bottoms, typical Britney Spears' style, now it is mostly conjugated with high waisted trousers, skirts, shorts, showing only a little bit of skin, on a more elegant style.
From Acne in London, Prada in Milan to Nina Ricci in Paris, this must-have piece resurged in many styles and shapes, we only have to figure out which is our favourite.
