Back to the 18th Century with Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld never seizes to amaze, and his last Resort 2013 collection for Chanel turned heads and is the hot topic in the fashion world.
Set in the Versailles Palace, this Monday the 14th, models one after the other, with a little logo of the label, the double-C as a beauty mark, walked the new creations of Chanel.
With a clear inspiration on the 18th century, Lagerfeld brought us a modern day Marie Antoinette, with ball gowns with very short hemlines, creepers and a slight rock&roll vibe to them.

A look back at Gossip Girl

The end of Gossip Girl, a show that grabbed the attention of people all around the world and that had a huge influence on street fashion, is already set. After 5 seasons, Gossip Girl will have a sixth and final season of only 11 episodes.
I have to say that, in my opinion, it's the perfect time to end it, taking into account that the show has seen better days. Although Î continue to watch it attentively, the truth is that it's not as captivating as it was on the first seasons, when I anxiously waited for the following week to come to see what would happen in the next episode.
Serena's character is more boring than ever now, Blair in still my favourite but she's not the same, and the same with Chuck, and Nate, well he's the beautiful face on the show but still doesn't add much to the story.
Now we just have to wait and see who will end up with Blair (my vote is on Chuck, of course). Will Serena finally find out what she wants to do in life and will she be able to win Dan back?

Because of this, and being a follower of this show for all these years, I decided to take a look back at the main characters style evolution throughout these 5 seasons.

Tavi . Fashion Muse

The whole world must have already heard about Tavi Gevinson, one of the most influential people in the fashion world and, also, one of the youngest ever blogger and trendsetter.
A girl with only 15 years old that seems to have come from a different era, with an aesthetic clearly influenced by passed decades like the 60's, and who pushes the boundaries of fashion, shaping them to her own tastes.
Tavi learned to question herself about the world, to create her own universe based on her ideas, tastes and experiences, much like many children and teenagers do, but she went further by sharing that universe with whoever wanted to see, and the result was thousands of followers.
When she was 11 she started a blog that turned out to be a fashion manual for many. With just 13 she was invited to the New York Fashion Week and, nowadays, four years later teens and grown ups from all over the world follow her blog the stylerookie.com and her online magazine rookiemag.com attentively. And, the list of fashion people wanting to work with her is immense.
Her last collaboration, with Wren, resulted on an ethereal and dreamy video, wih a 60's inspiration and something that takes us to the movie "The Virgin Suicides", both loved by the young blogger. In the video, Tavi shows up singing the music "Beware of Young Girls" by Dory Previn while she appears with different pieces of the brand from the fall 2012 collection. A perfect combination.
What more is there to come from this young fashion muse?

Schiaparelli back to life

As I already mentioned in yesterday's post, Schiaparelli is back to life, with the relaunching of the brand set to the beginning of next year, after being closed since 1954, and what better time to announce this return than the opening of the exhibition on the Met in its honour.
Elsa Schiaparelli, the founder of the Italian house, changed the face of fashion with her provocative and advanced for her time creations, by uniting art and fashion.
On the 20's and 30's, a time when the fashion world was ruled by Chanel, Vionnet and Poiret, Schiaparelli appears like a breath of fresh air, with proposals much different from her contemporaries.
Visibly influenced by art, especially the surrealist movement, she collaborated with several artists like Jean Cocteau and Dalí, on the creation of her pieces, that stood out for their originality.
From the bow sweater, that is still a modern piece of clothing nowadays, to the shoe hat or the lobster dress, the Schiaparelli universe inspired and continues to inspire many designers until today.
With the iconic brand finally back, we just have to wait to see which designer will be chosen to follow this fashion revolutionary footsteps.

Last night, while in here, in Porto, people were going to Queima das Fitas (a week of university parties), in New York the biggest fashion personalities and more got together to attend one of the greatest events of the year, the Met Ball.

But back to the Met Ball, many were the stunning (and some not that stunning) dresses that passed through the red, and I'm going to leave you here some of my favourites.
What was your favourite look?
